“Still at war with customs” — yet another letter from the HZA

To be honest, I’m not looking forward to opening this letter…

…but there is no way around it.

In my last letter to the local “HZA” (main customs office), I pointed out that the WS2812B, which they denied me to import from China due to “product safety concerns”, is freely available from DigiKey, RoHS compliant… the whole works.

Today (about 4 weeks later), their reply states:

“Due to your letter from … … … etc. etc. we once again asked the ‘industry control office’ / ‘Trade Supervisory Office’ / ‘public trade supervision’ … for a statement regarding the WS2812B… etc. etc.”

So I guess I’ll have to wait yet another 4 weeks to get a definite answer whether the 5V WS2812B RGB 5050 LEDs are a threat to everybody’s lives in this country and must be destroyed or sent back to China, or if they are as safe as any other plastic / silicon combinations I can buy almost anywhere without restrictions.

I shall wait and see!

Started cheating because of the extremely aggravating boneheadedness of the people working at Hauptzollamt. I hope they f*ing die a long and painful death.

Well, I don’t wish them an early demise. That would be a bit too harsh I think. But there is absolutely no doubt that the current system is just wrong in so many ways.

  2. Hang in there … I’ve encountered a similar problem yesterday.
These guy have neither fantasy nor the skill to do some basic internet research.
I guess you don’t end up at the “Zoll” because of your exceptional skills in deduction and research.

I spent 3h this week to pick a up 27$ item (which I got for free)from the nearest customs office.

    I’ve posted a little rant here: https://hackaday.io/contest/4200-caption-cern-contest/log/17887-caption-cern-contest-week-14-winner/discussion-26502

The people working at HZAs must be part of an army of clones! Having read your rant makes me think I know your “friends” pretty well.

The ones working at the customs outpost near me always tell me that nobody forces me to deal with them… I could go home anytime, without the parcel of course.
