Soldering DFN10 packages by hand — quite simple !

If you use the right footprint!


Once you hold a DFN10 package in your hands, you’ll soon find out that these chips weren’t really made for hand assembly. Therefore most of the standard footprints out there are of course targeted at machine assembled boards. Not good if you want to (or have to) use a soldering iron. There’s simply not enough room to make a good thermal connection.

The obvious solution: larger / longer / wider pads.
