I’m probably not the first one to do it, but it is still a very good idea. Especially when combined with a product like ‘Parted Magic‘. Ultimate usefulness. Save / restore / backup / image computers – AND – code / compile / program Arduino boards. Runs on every computer with at least 512MB RAM that can boot from a USB stick.
Once the system is up and running and some stuff has been copied to the ramdisk (arduino folder) you can remove the stick! This is especially useful if the stick is slow. You don’t want to run compile jobs on a slow stick.
Thanks to the upcoming 1.0.1 release (includes toolchain) one doesn’t have to worry about avr-gcc/avr-libc anymore. This video still uses 1.0.1-RC2.
