Same here with my front loader. I run a hose with piping hot gas hot water from the laundry sink into the detergent dispenser and turn off the machines cold water inlet for the first wash fill. I also like to give it a little more so there's some splish-splash happening - these new fangled 'efficient' washers never seem to put enough water in! As for the door safety lock - the first thin I did when the machine arrived is get out a screw driver and disconnect the rotten thing! Now if only I could get the cycle to go through faster - alas no control over that!

Good to know. Usually I only wash at 30°. I haven't tested yet if the machine tolerates an absent heating element, or if it complains when I disconnect it. The only problem is bacteria buildup in the machine. Once in a while it should get hotter than 60° in there to kill them.
