FrOSCon 2009

FrOSCon is a two day conference on Free Software and Open Source, taking place for the third time on August, 23rd/24th 2008 at the Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in Sankt Augustin near the cities of Bonn and Cologne.

“We are looking for contributions about current developments from the whole field of Free Software and Open Source., e.g.:”

  • Operating Systems
  • Development
  • Administration
  • Security
  • Legal Issues
  • Desktop
  • Education

“We would especially like to see contributions about the following topics:”

  • Open Hardware – Arduino, BeagleBoard etc.
  • Cloud Computing – Free Software for building and managing large infrastructures
  • Free Software and SaaS (Software as a Service)
  • Gadgets etc. – Free Software on netbooks, phones…

“Furthermore there will be a dedicated Java subconference, organized by high-ranking members of the german Java community.  Contributions concerning all things Java can also be provided through this CfP.”

There is an ongoing discussion in the German subforum on arduino.cc about going there. I suggested to have some cheap and small arduino clones fabbed to have something to give away or sell cheaply. Just so spread the virus :-)

The first board is 40x40mm and is an Arduino clone with mini USB and FTDI chip. The second board is 35x35mm and comes without that. The PCBs alone would cost less than 2.00€ per piece and we’d get about 60 of them. Putting all the parts on there would increase the cost per piece to 7.50€ or 13.00€ with USB/FTDI support. I could solder 25 of them.
